items in the store. Ann Audrey Eliades Kirk started the business after she left the education field in 2022. Her grandfather bought the
building in the 1920's and it has been in her family since.
This artisan shop is located in Historic Downtown Hopewell, VA and is open Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm.

BERKELEY’S HISTORY BEGINS IN 1619 when settlers observed the first Thanksgiving in America. The estate was the birthplace of Benjamin Harrison V, signer of the Declaration of Independence and William H. Harrison, ninth U.S president. In the summer of 1862, the Union Army occupied the plantation. While at Berkeley, General Daniel Butterfield composed the familiar tune “Taps”, first played by his bugler, O.W. Norton. The 1726 Georgian mansion occupies a beautifully landscaped hilltop site overlooking the historic James River. Five terraces of gardens extend a full quarter mile from the mansion to the riverbanks.

Guides tell stories of Thanksgiving, the Harrisons, the Civil War, and present owners of Berkeley. Artifacts can be explored in the museum. Self-guided grounds tours include gardens, original dependencies, and reconstructed slave quarters. Experiencing four centuries of history, tours, and exhibits makes visiting Berkeley a fun and educational experience for all to enjoy.

The Hopewell Riverwalk is a 1,736-foot wooden boardwalk that follows the shoreline of the Appomattox River and is managed by our Hopewell Recreation and Parks Department. This new walkway allows visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty and nature of the Appomattox River, with sweeping views of historic City Point. The Riverwalk can be accessed from City Park, which offers a nature-inspired playground, sandy beach area, covered pavilion, fishing pier, and off-street parking. The park is equipped with portable restroom facilities year-round.

Did you know that the Hopewell Riverwalk will eventually be part of a 25-mile trail network connecting Hopewell with Dinwiddie County? The proposed Appomattox River Trail is spearheaded by the river advocacy group Friends of the Lower Appomattox River (FOLAR). FOLAR was instrumental in assisting with planning the Hopewell Riverwalk and has worked on countless projects along the river to promote conservation and improve public access.
